Youth and Sports Minister says Malaysia is ready to host the ASEAN Para Games 2027, with venue and management plans advancing.
NAKHON RATCHASIMA: Malaysia is progressing with a high level of preparedness to host the ASEAN Para Games (APG) in 2027.
Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari (pic) said the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) leadership shared this confidence after a positive meeting.
“They expressed that Malaysia is already on the right track and is ready to host APG 2027,” he told a media conference reviewing athlete performance at APG 2025.
He said the national contingent’s success in surpassing its medal target at the current Games reflects long-term efforts from athletes, coaches and agencies.
The focus for 2027 extends beyond athlete performance to venue readiness and event management.
Mohammed Taufiq assured that sensitive issues like athlete classification will not be taken lightly when Malaysia hosts.
He also announced a RM5 million allocation to upgrade the Kampung Pandan Centre of Excellence this year.
The upgrade aims to enhance comfort and full-time training facilities for athletes preparing for the Games.
Athletes with outstanding achievements at APG 2025 are eligible for incentives under the SHAKAM reward scheme.
He stressed this reflects the government’s commitment to athlete welfare and maintaining international performance.
