According to the comprehensive industry analyses, including the CAE Aviation Talent Forecast and latest long-term outlooks from Boeing, the global aviation ecosystem will require over 1.4 million to 2.3 million new professionals over the next 2 decades to avoid catastrophic operational bottlenecks. The talent gap is driven by a “perfect storm” of demographic shifts and cross-country competition. In the US & Europe, roughly 27% to 29% of certified mechanics and engineers are over 55, with a massive wave expected to retire over the next six years. Rapid retirements mean the crucial “senior layer” of competent technicians is vanishing. In Malaysia, technical jobs have surpassed expectations - nearing 35,000 roles - the country struggles with a scarcity of highly skilled engineers, a lack of hands-on R&D expertise, and ongoing “brain drain” to neighboring Asian hubs like Singapore and Middle East. Malaysia has positioned itself as the 2nd largest aerospace hub in ASEAN. The sector generated RM32.5 billion in revenue and is targeting RM55 billion by 2030. The industry is heavily focused on Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) and aerostructure manufacturing. Delivery backlogs from major manufacturers have led to massive MRO work.
