Haze Worsens Nationwide, 4 Areas In Sarawak Record Hazardous API Levels
The haze situation across Malaysia continues to worsen, with four areas in Sarawak recording hazardous Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 2pm today (Aug 31).

According to Sin Chew Daily, data from the Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index Management System showed that Serian IPD recorded the highest reading at 451.

Kuching followed with an API reading of 354, while Samarahan and Sri Aman recorded 342 and 332 respectively.

Several other areas in Sarawak also recorded very unhealthy air quality.

Sarikei registered an API reading of 275, followed by Sibu at 234 and Mukah at 219.

Meanwhile, six other locations in the state recorded unhealthy API levels, namely Samalaju at 191, Miri at 172, ILP Miri at 171, Bintulu at 171, Kapit at 164 and Limbang at 160.

Sabah & Labuan also affected

Sabah has also been placed under haze alert after air quality in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau reached unhealthy levels over the past 48 hours.

As of 1pm today, Tawau recorded an API reading of 153, while Kota Kinabalu stood at 130 and the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Training Institute area recorded 122.

Labuan was also experiencing unhealthy air quality, with its API reaching 162.

Unhealthy readings recorded in Peninsular Malaysia

Several areas in Peninsular Malaysia were also affected.

In Penang, Seberang Jaya and Seberang Perai both recorded API readings of 155, while Minden recorded 153.

Sungai Petani in Kedah recorded an API reading of 156, while Taiping in Perak stood at 116.

Under Malaysia’s API classification, readings between 101 and 200 are considered unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are classified as hazardous.
