Four areas in Sarawak, led by Serian at 445, recorded hazardous Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as haze conditions deteriorated across Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR: Four areas in Sarawak recorded hazardous Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 4 pm today, with the Serian District Police Headquarters (IPD) recording the highest at 445.

According to data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, the three other areas with hazardous readings were Kuching (366), Samarahan (350) and Sri Aman (334).

Three other areas in the state recorded very unhealthy readings, namely Sarikei (277), Sibu (243) and Mukah (216).

Meanwhile, 15 areas recorded unhealthy API readings, with Samalaju recording the highest at 197, followed by Bintulu (178), Industrial Training Institute (ILP) Miri and Miri (174 each), and Kapit (166).

Other areas recording unhealthy readings were Labuan (165), Limbang, Sarawak (161), Sungai Petani, Kedah (155), and three areas in Penang, namely Seberang Perai (154), Seberang Jaya (153) and Minden (152).

In Sabah, Tawau and Kota Kinabalu recorded readings of 152 and 151 respectively, while Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic and Kimanis recorded 121 and 116 respectively.

Meanwhile, 42 areas nationwide recorded moderate readings, while three recorded good readings as of 4 pm today.

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and above 300 hazardous.
