Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil says the work-from-home directive for civil servants is a key measure to reduce fuel consumption and government costs during the global energy crisis.
PUTRAJAYA: The government’s new work-from-home policy for civil servants is a strategic move to ensure more efficient fuel usage and reduce operational costs amid the global energy crisis, according to Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi, who also serves as the MADANI Government spokesman, stated that achieving fuel savings among civil servants is the primary objective of the policy as the country navigates international energy challenges.
The policy, set to begin next Wednesday, will not involve certain critical sectors including education, security, and healthcare, with other exemptions to be determined by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.
He explained that for departments like communications, heads of department will assess implementation as long as core functions remain unaffected, noting that public communication can often be managed remotely.
Fahmi expressed confidence that colleagues from the Information Department and other agencies could still function effectively from various locations during the WFH period.
The Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, agreed to implement the WFH policy across ministries, agencies, statutory bodies and government-linked companies starting April 15.
