Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil criticises PAS president Hadi Awang’s remarks on fuel prices as inaccurate and urges him to use proper channels.
PUTRAJAYA: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has rebuked PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang over his remarks on rising fuel prices, describing them as inaccurate.
Fahmi stated that the Marang MP should have advised Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar to raise the matter during the meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and state leaders.
He noted that a detailed briefing had already been provided by Petronas, National Economic Action Council crisis management task force chairman Tan Sri Hassan Marican, and Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican.
“The opportunity for Marang MP to raise questions on fuel prices was fully provided by the Prime Minister,” said Fahmi.
“The MP should have asked the Terengganu Menteri Besar to bring the issue up during the meeting, but unfortunately that did not happen, and I was there as living proof,” he added at a global energy crisis briefing and post-Cabinet press conference.
Earlier, Abdul Hadi had claimed the public was once again being misled by the government over fuel price increases in Peninsular Malaysia while questioning why similar measures were not implemented in Sabah and Sarawak.
In a statement, he argued there was no strong justification for the increase as Malaysia is not directly involved in sanctions related to Iran or disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
