KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 — National mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei advanced to the 2024 Korea Open final after defeating Chinese pair Zhang Chi-Cheng Xing 22-20, 21-19 in their semi-final match in Mokpo, Seoul, this morning.

The Malaysian world number nine pair secured the win in about 45 minutes, overcoming Zhang-Cheng, who are ranked world No 31, in their first-ever clash in international tournaments, Free Malaysia Today reported.

This is the pair’s first final in a BWF World Tour Super 500 series.

To date, Tang Jie-Ee Wei have previously entered four Super 300 Series finals, winning the Orleans Masters and Taipei Open last year, and finishing as runners-up at the Thailand Masters and Swiss Open earlier this year.

In the semi-final, the Malaysian duo came from behind in the first game, overcoming two game points to win 22-20 in 21 minutes.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei then took an early lead in the second game, surging ahead to an 11-4 advantage at the break, and despite a strong comeback from Zhang-Cheng, the Malaysians secured the game 21-19 in 24 minutes.

They will face unranked Chinese scratch pair Guo Xin Wa-Qian Li in the final tomorrow.

Guo-Qian reached the final by upsetting South Korea’s world number nine pair Kim Won Ho-Jeong Na Eun with scores of 21-14, 22-24, 21-10 in the other semi-final.
