Malaysia’s junior hockey team lost 6-0 to the Netherlands in their Junior World Cup Group E match at Madurai International Hockey Stadium

KUALA LUMPUR: The national men’s junior hockey squad suffered their first defeat at the 2025 Junior World Cup after falling 6-0 to the Netherlands in Tamil Nadu, India.

In their second Group E match at Madurai International Hockey Stadium, Nor Saiful Zaini’s team could not contain the relentless attacks from the two-time runners-up.

The Netherlands took the lead in the ninth minute through Casper van der Veen’s field goal before the same player doubled their advantage just one minute later.

Joppe Wolbert compounded Malaysia’s misery with two goals within a minute through a 20th-minute penalty corner and a 21st-minute penalty stroke.

Thies Bakker extended the Dutch lead to 5-0 with a field goal in the 28th minute before Tjeerd Boermans completed the emphatic victory in the 42nd minute.

After two matches, the Netherlands lead Group E with six points while England sits second with three points.

Malaysia shares three points with England in third place while Austria remains fourth without any points.

The Young Tigers will next face England in their third group match on Tuesday. – Bernama
