Education Ministry will consult MOH and MetMalaysia on school sessions and potential home-based learning during the ongoing hot weather.
KAJANG: Any decisions regarding school sessions, including the potential shift to home-based teaching and learning (PdPR), will be coordinated with the Ministry of Health and the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated the ministry is examining both short and long-term measures to address the extreme heat, prioritising student and staff well-being.
“Every plan will be coordinated with MOH and other relevant agencies so that the measures are well-organised and effective,” she told reporters at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tinggi Kajang.
She emphasised that the priority remains children’s education and the safety of the entire school community.
Proposals under consideration include creating more covered areas to allow school activities to continue in a safer environment.
Fadhlina also did not rule out the installation of air conditioning in schools as a potential measure.
“These are all good suggestions. God willing, these proposals will be considered at the ministry level,” she added.
MetMalaysia has forecast that the current hot and dry weather affecting the country is expected to persist until the early phase of the Southwest Monsoon in June.
