The Ministry of Education will phase in a new national curriculum starting next year, beginning with Year One and Form One students in 2027.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education will introduce a new national school curriculum in stages starting next year. Deputy Minister Wong Kah Woh said the phased rollout ensures the education system remains dynamic and meets future needs.
The new curriculum will first be implemented for Year One and Form One students in 2027. It will then be extended to Year Two and Form Two pupils the following year.
Wong explained that curricula are implemented for a set period before being reviewed and updated. He was responding to a supplementary question from Syed Sadiq Syed Abdul Rahman in the Dewan Rakyat.
The deputy minister added that curriculum reviews are conducted when necessary. For certain subjects, these reviews can take place from time to time.
In a separate response, Wong detailed efforts to integrate civic and political education. He said national and political education elements have been woven into history and civic education subjects.
This integration provides students with early exposure to the concept of democracy. The initiative aims to ensure students understand authentic political concepts before encountering partisan politics.
Collaboration with the Election Academy further strengthens political literacy among students. This partnership provides authentic learning experiences on the voting process and voter responsibilities.
Furthermore, the ministry introduced the MADANI Generation Character Building Programme this year. The programme focuses on four main components, including strengthening patriotism.
It also aims to nurture a positive sense of identity in students across the nation.
