Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says new initiatives for jobless graduates and diploma holders will be announced soon to utilise their skills.
KUALA LUMPUR: The government will soon announce additional support measures for those left unemployed, including graduates and diploma holders.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated the initiatives aim to ensure their skills are not wasted.
“I will announce additional measures soon to assist those who were out of work, including unemployed graduates and diploma holders,” he told reporters after chairing a roundtable session with financial institution representatives.
The session was also attended by Bank Negara Malaysia governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour and Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican.
This follows several existing government measures to cushion the impact of the global supply crisis.
These include maintaining petrol prices under the BUDI MADANI RON95 programme and retaining diesel subsidies in Sabah and Sarawak.
Other steps involve higher monthly assistance for individual diesel vehicle owners, farmers and smallholders under the Agri-Commodity and BUDI Diesel initiatives.
The government has also increased incentives for padi cultivation and introduced financing guarantees of up to RM5 billion to support micro, small and medium enterprises.
Malaysia’s unemployment rate stood at 2.9% in February 2026.
This equates to 506,800 people being out of work.
