
It’s official! After a day or two of speculation and excitement, Formula 1 and Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) have announced that Malaysia will be hosting the Bahrain Grand Prix! And yes, Sepang International Circuit will be the host venue. Happening from 2 to 4 October 2026, the occasion will see the popular high-energy sport return to Sepang International Circuit after nine long years.
Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, as the race will be called, will be held in between both the Azerbajian Grand Prix (24 – 26 September) and Singapore Grand Prix (9 – 11 October). The Bahrain Grand Prix, initially scheduled for 12 April, was postponed earlier in the season.
Here’s what the President and CEO of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, had to say: “We are delighted to confirm that Malaysia will host the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2026. Once again, the sport has demonstrated its ability to adapt, find solutions, and deliver, creating an exciting moment for everyone who follows Formula 1”.
The last Malaysian Grand Prix took place in 2017 and was won by Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing. Another fun fact: Ferrari’s Eddie Irvine was the winner of the inaugural Formula 1 Malaysian Grand Prix.
In the current season, Kimi Antonelli of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team tops the Drivers’ standings with 204 points. Rounding up the top three are Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1’s Lewis Hamilton and Antonelli’s teammate George Russell. Next up, Formula 1 heads to Hungary where the drivers will be taking on the Hungaroring.
We will have to wait to find out more updates about Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia. But of course, there’s no denying the excitement in the air!
