Malaysian badminton pairs face mixed fortunes at Indonesia Masters

Defending champions Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun fall in quarter-finals, while Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin and other Malaysians advance to semis.

DEFENDING champions Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun crashed out of the Indonesia Masters quarter-finals today.

The Malaysian pair lost to Indonesian duo Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani-Sabar Karyaman Gutama at Istora Senayan.

The Indonesians secured a 22-20, 21-19 victory in just 38 minutes.

Professional pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani enjoyed a swift 34-minute win.

They defeated South Koreans Song Hyun Cho–Lee Jing Min 21-17, 21-13 to reach the semi-finals.

They will next face either Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard or the South Korean-Malaysian pair Choi Sol Gyu–Goh V Shem.

Women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah advanced as predicted with a 29-minute win.

They beat South Koreans Kim Yu Jung-Lee Yu Lim 21-15, 21-9.

Their semi-final opponents will be either Taiwanese pair Hsu Ya Ching-Sung Yu Hsuan or Indonesians Lanny Tria Mayasari-Apriyani Rahayu.

National mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei also qualified for the semi-finals.

They overcame Singaporean-Indonesian pair Terry Hee-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja 21-16, 21-19.

They are set to meet world number two Chinese pair Jiang Zhen Bang–Wei Ya Xin next.

Finally, national women’s singles player K Letshanaa progressed to the semi-finals.

She defeated sixth seed Huang Yu-Hsun of Taiwan 21-17, 21-18.

She will now face Thailand’s Pitchamon Opatniputh for a place in the final.
