Malaysian female robotics team inspires national pride after victory at Japan's Robot Sumo Tournament

SHAH ALAM - A Malaysian team from Tunku Kurshiah College (TKC) has recently made waves in the international robotics scene by achieving a remarkable victory at the 2024 All Japan Robot Sumo Tournament held at Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

The TKC Ensis Kogeki team, comprising two talented female students, secured a 2-1 win against a Japanese team during the 41st match.

This impressive feat placed them among the top 32 teams from 15 countries participating in the tournament.

The team's high-speed robot performance captivated spectators and garnered praise from Malaysian supporters.

Despite eventually being eliminated by a French team, their victory over the Japanese team has triggered significant interest and admiration.

The organisers shared a video of the match on YouTube, which has since gone viral, further amplifying the team's achievement.

Malaysians have expressed their pride and support for the young robotics enthusiasts, urging the government to invest more in robotics education and research.
