LAHAD DATU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a trawler in the waters of northeast Kunak Jaya, here, on Monday.

Lahad Datu Maritime Zone Director Maritime Commander Nik Mohd Rizam Nik Mohd Fauzi said the boat was intercepted during “Op Pluto Timur” at 4.15pm.

He said upon inspection, the boat was found to be committing an offence by carrying out fishing activity in less than 0.8 nautical miles from the shore.

“Three local men and a Filipino aged between 20 and 40, including the skipper, were also detained and handed over to MMEA for further investigations,” he said.
