Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin and Pearly Tan-M.Thinaah advance to Japan Masters semi-finals with quarter-final victories over Taiwanese opponents

MALAYSIAN PAIRS GOH SZE FEI-NUR IZZUDDIN MOHD RUMSANI AND PEARLY TAN-M.THINAAH secured semi-final berths at the Japan Masters 2025 with quarter-final victories over Taiwanese opponents.

The second-seeded men’s doubles pair battled to a 21-16, 10-21, 21-16 win against Lee Jhe-Huei-Yang Po-Hsuan at Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium.

They will face Japanese duo Hiroki Midorikawa-Kyohei Yamashita in the semi-finals.

Pearly-Thinaah delivered a more straightforward performance, defeating Hsu Yin-Hui-Lin Jhih Yun 21-13, 21-17 in the women’s doubles quarter-finals.

The Malaysian pair awaits the winner between Japan’s Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsumoto and Taiwan’s Hu Ling Fang-Jheng Yu Chieh.

Two other Malaysian men’s doubles pairs exited the tournament in the quarter-finals.

Wan Arif Wan Junaidi-Yap Roy King fell 19-21, 14-21 to Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa-Kyohei Yamashita.

Choong Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal Nazri lost 16-21, 16-21 to Taiwan’s Chiu Hsiang Chieh-Wang Chi-Lin.

In women’s singles, Wong Ling Ching’s campaign ended with a 17-21, 9-21 quarter-final defeat to Thailand’s Ratchanok Itanon.

The national player had previously stunned Canadian Michelle Li in an earlier round. – Bernama
