The government has given out a one-off RM100 cash aid under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme for Malaysians aged 18 and above.
The aid, which is credited straight to your MyKad, started rolling out on August 31 and can be used until the end of December.
A student took the opportunity to start a business
While most people used the aid to stock up on groceries, one Malaysian student turned it into a small business idea during her semester break.
Her mom, @farraheeda, later shared on Threads how her 22-year-old daughter decided to use the RM100 assistance as startup capital for a batik cake business.
According to the post, her daughter spent the money on ingredients like biscuits, Milo, and milk under the eligible SARA category to whip up her batik cake indulgence.
Her batik cakes were quickly sold out
The proud mom shared that before her daughter could even whip up more batches, all the batik cake was already sold out.
She added that she only helped with the packaging while her daughter managed everything else, with hopes of one day opening her own cafe.
“I didn’t expect anything from the post, but suddenly it went viral. Thank you for all the kind words and encouragement. May my daughter succeed in chasing her dreams one day,” she wrote in another post.
Her decision to start a small business drew positive reactions online, with many netizens showing their love and support
“Sometimes people don’t even have the capital to start a business. This is such a good beginning. If the business does well, the profits can keep rolling. If it doesn’t work out, it’s not too painful since the capital was free. But still, may the sales journey be eased!”
