Malaysian woman arrested in India with RM2.2m cannabis

Kuala Lumpur:  A Malaysian woman was arrested by Indian authorities after she was caught attempting to smuggle 15 kilogrammes of cannabis, valued at approximately 52.5 million rupees (RM2.2 million), at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sept 4.

Delhi Customs (Airport & General) in a statement on X said the passenger, who arrived from Kuala Lumpur on flight OD-205, was intercepted at Terminal 3 based on profile-based targeting.

"She was diverted at the Green Channel for further inspection. An examination of her trolley bag led to the discovery of 30 polythene pouches containing suspected ganja (cannabis) weighing 15,015.5 grammes (net weight)," the department said.

The suspect was subsequently arrested under Section 43(B) of India’s Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, while the illicit drugs were seized under Section 43(A) of the same law.

A case was registered against the Malaysian national under Sections 8, 20, 23, and 29 of the NDPS Act, which deal with the illegal possession, transport, import, and conspiracy involving narcotic substances.
