Malaysians in Japan advised to stay vigilant after a magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit Iwate Prefecture, with embassy contact details shared.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians in Japan have been urged to remain vigilant and stay informed of the latest developments following the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that struck Iwate Prefecture in northeastern Japan early this morning.

The Malaysian Embassy in Tokyo, in a statement on Facebook, also advised Malaysians to monitor local conditions closely and follow updates issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

In the event of emergency, they can contact the Embassy at +81-3-3476-3840 (office hours),  Emergency Hotline: +81-80-4322-3366 (after office hours) or email: consular.tyo@kin.gov.my and mwtokyo@kin.gov.my.

The earthquake, which struck at 7.30 am local time, reportedly injured four people, including teenagers and people in their 50s. No tsunami warning was issued.
