THE Ministry of Finance (MoF) has issued an urgent warning to the public over a fabricated message circulating online, which falsely claims that RON95 petrol will be rationed following the government’s planned subsidy rationalisation.
The ministry stressed that the message, which includes a suspicious link allegedly related to RON95 subsidies, is entirely untrue and should be disregarded.
“The public is advised to verify any information through official government channels before taking action,” the ministry said, urging Malaysians not to be misled by unverified claims and to avoid clicking on links from unreliable sources.
The warning comes in response to misinformation being spread ahead of the government’s fuel subsidy reforms. Last month, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the price of RON95 petrol would be reduced to RM1.99 per litre for Malaysians once the rationalisation policy is implemented later this year. - August 29, 2025
