Deputy Defence Minister confirms all 500 Malaysian peacekeepers are safe near conflict zones, emphasising their UN role and commitment to safety protocols

ALOR GAJAH: All personnel of Battalion Malaysia (MALBATT) 850-13 conducting peacekeeping duties in southern Lebanon are safe despite their proximity to current conflict zones.

Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said about 500 personnel have been advised to strictly obey standard operating procedures to ensure their safety throughout their mission.

He emphasised that MALBATT 850-13 is part of a United Nations peacekeeping mission and that Malaysia is not involved in any war in the area.

“Our team is under the UN banner and their task is to maintain peace and assist local communities that require humanitarian aid,” he told reporters after an event here.

Adly added that Malaysia remains committed to supporting international peacekeeping missions to ensure global peace.

He also advised any Malaysians still in the conflict region to ensure their personal safety and obey the advice of local authorities.
