MANILA, Philippines — Several malls in Metro Manila and nearby provinces are offering free overnight parking on Monday, Aug. 17, as heavy rains from the southwest monsoon, or Habagat, continue to affect the capital and surrounding areas.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced the list in a Facebook post as persistent rains affected road conditions and raised concerns over flooding in parts of the metropolis.
The free overnight parking is available at selected branches of Filinvest Malls, Sta. Lucia Mall, Robinsons Malls, SM Supermalls, Ayala Malls and Fisher Mall.
Among the Filinvest properties included are Festival Mall Alabang, Fora Mall Tagaytay, Main Square Bacoor, Westgate, Bloc 10 and South Station in Alabang.
Sta. Lucia Mall is also included.
Robinsons Malls offering the arrangement are in Antipolo, Galleria Ortigas, Manila, Magnolia, Cainta, Otis, Metro East, Malabon, Novaliches and Las Piñas. The list also covers Robinsons branches in Pangasinan, Malolos, Starmills and Angeles.
SM Supermalls account for the largest number of participating locations, including SM North EDSA, SM Center Congressional, SM Megamall, The Podium, SM Center Pasig, SM Center Shaw, SM Mall of Asia, S Maison, MOA Square and SM Aura.
Also included are SM Southmall, SM Center Las Piñas, SM City Valenzuela, SM Center Sangandaan, SM City Grand Central, SM City Fairview, SM City Novaliches, SM City Caloocan, SM City Manila, SM City San Lazaro, SM Savemore Nagtahan, SM City Sta. Mesa, SM City BF Parañaque, SM City Bicutan, SM Center Muntinlupa, SM City Sucat, SM City Marikina and SM City East Ortigas.
The list extends to SM City Marilao, SM City Baliwag, SM Center Pulilan, SM City San Jose del Monte, SM City Clark, SM City Pampanga, SM City San Fernando Downtown, SM City Telabastagan, SM City Bataan, SM City Olongapo Central, SM City Olongapo Downtown, SM Center Masinag, SM City San Mateo, SM City Taytay and SM Center Angono.
Participating Ayala Malls include Cloverleaf, Fairview Terraces, Trinoma, U.P. Town Center, Vertis North, Arca South, Feliz and Circuit.
Fisher Mall is also included.
The MMDA's announcement comes as the southwest monsoon continues to bring rains over Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.
Motorists facing flooded or difficult-to-navigate roads may use the participating malls as temporary parking areas overnight, subject to the respective mall's parking and security procedures.
The MMDA also advised the public to remain alert and monitor official weather and traffic advisories as the rainy conditions continue.
