Zohran Mamdani responded to a question about New York’s bid for the Winter Olympics with a reference to an iconic 90s comedy.
On Monday (22 June), state officials announced that it has established a new exploratory committee to evaluate whether New York State should bid to host the 2042 Winter Olympics.
Asked about the potential bid during a press conference, the New York mayor replied: “I think when anyone asks me about the Winter Olympics, the first thing that comes to mind is, ‘Feel the rhythm, feel the vibe, come on boys, it’s bobsled time!’”
Mr Mamdai was referring to the 1993 hit Cool Runnings starring Cuba Gooding Jr., which is loosely based on the story of the Jamaican Bobsled team who made history at the 1988 Winter Olympics.
