  • Joshua Breene, a 23-year-old from Hull, has completed his first half marathon since suffering a sudden cardiac arrest during a race in May 2025.
  • He collapsed less than a kilometre from the finish line of the Birmingham Half Marathon, where fellow runner Lloyd Heckler performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
  • Joshua was diagnosed with an atrial flutter, an abnormal heart rhythm, and underwent surgery, spending six days in hospital.
  • Lloyd, a physiotherapist, connected with Joshua via the running app Strava and visited him in hospital, providing support.
  • After a period of recovery and medical clearance, Joshua successfully completed the Bath Half Marathon in March 2026, raising money for the British Heart Foundation.
