Kota Kinabalu: A man and his wife were fined a total of RM20,000 for allowing illegal immigrants to be in the premises under their control.

Normah Masumun, 40, and her husband Nabi Gulzar, 32, pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain, to the charge against them.

On the first count, Normah was fined RM10,000 for permitting two Pakistanis, who did not have any valid document at Khan Restoran in Kg Taun Gusi, Kota Belud at 2.37pm on March 26.

The court imposed a fine of RM5,000 or six months’ jail for each illegal immigrant involved.

Read more On the second count, Normah and Nabi were fined RM5,000 in default six months’ jail each for allowing a Pakistani to be at the same premises also on March 26.

The charge stated that the duo were the person who controlled the premises.

The offence under Section 55E(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 which carries a jail term of up to a year, or a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000, or both, for each illegal immigrant involved.

Prosecuting Officer Sopian Karate from the Immigration Department appeared for the prosecution while the couple was not represented.
