Kota Kinabalu: A woman and a man were fined a total of RM10,000 or six months’ jail each for allowing two illegal immigrants to be in the premises under their control.

Allan Chang Soon Fah, 62, and Hong Moi Fong, 60, pleaded guilty separately before Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain, to the charge against them.

They were found permitting the two Filipinas, aged 24 and 45, who did not have any valid document at 12.49pm on March 20, this year at the Kopi Ping Cafe in Gaya Street, here.

The charge stated that the duo controlled the premises.

Read more The court ordered the duo to pay RM5,000 for each illegal immigrants involved.

Meanwhile, Chang was fined another RM5,000 in default six months’ jail for also allowing a 25-year-old Filipino illegal immigrant in the premises.

The offence took place at 9.25pm on April 22, this year at the Kopi Ping Cafe in Sutera Avenue, here.

The offence under Section 55E(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 which carries a jail term of up to a year, or a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000, or both, for each illegal immigrant involved.

Prosecuting Officer Sopian Karate from the Immigration Department appeared for the prosecution while Chang and Hong were not represented.
