Man arrested for burning car in Sipitang

BEAUFORT: A man was arrested in Sipitang on suspicion of burning a Toyota Altis car during a fit of revenge and jealousy on Sunday.

District Police Chief DSP Ismail Abdullah said the complainant had just reached home when he was told by his brother-in-law that the 30-year-old suspect came earlier in a Perodua Bezza.

“He saw the suspect opened the door of the complainant’s car and threw something before fleeing the scene.

“Inspections by the brother-in-law found fire had damaged the driver’s seat, steering wheel, dashboard and roof lining with losses estimated at RM20,000,” he said.

Read more At 6.30pm, a team of Criminal Investigation Division officers and personnel raided a house in Sipitang leading to the arrest.

“The suspect has admitted to burning and spraying the victim’s car with black paint,” said Ismail.

He said the man is currently being remanded for seven days from Monday to assist investigations according to Section 436 of the Penal Code.
