IPOH – A local man was arrested for allegedly being involved in an armed robbery involving an elderly woman at a house in Langkap near Teluk Intan.

Hilir Perak District Police chief ACP Chua Kok Lian said police received a report from the 69-year-old local woman, who claimed she had been robbed by an unidentified man.

He said in the incident at about 4am, the suspect, who was armed with a machete, allegedly snatched a gold bracelet worn by the victim, causing her to sustain injuries, with losses estimated at RM6,000.

"Following the report, further investigations and intelligence led to the arrest of a 32-year-old man at about 2.30am yesterday in Slim River.

"Police also recovered and seized a gold bracelet believed to be linked to the case for further investigation,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Chua said the suspect was remanded for seven days until Aug 17 to assist and facilitate investigations under Section 394 of the Penal Code for causing hurt while committing a robbery.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Chua said two local men suspected of being linked to a break-in at a fishing equipment shop on Jalan Changkat Jong, Teluk Intan, had also been arrested.

He said police received a report from the shop owner after discovering that the premises had been prised open and broken into on July 30, with an inspection revealing that fishing equipment worth about RM8,000 was missing.

"Following the report, police conducted investigations and intelligence operations before arresting two local males aged 13 and 19 in separate raids.

"Further investigations also led police to recover and seize several items believed to be linked to the case for further investigation,” he said, adding that both suspects would be charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code at the Teluk Intan Magistrate’s Court today. – BERNAMA
