The referee brings the game to an end and it’s job done for City.

A comfortable 3-0 win in the end and the title race goes on. Guardiola’s men have now got a better goal difference than Arsenal, in case it comes to that.

GOAL! City finally have another and once again it all comes from a real moment of quality.

This time it comes from Cherki, who bides his time near the edge of the area before slipping in an inch-perfect through ball that leaves Savinho with a simple finish to slide past Henderson.

77 mins

A real lull in activity now. Both sides look like they’d be happy to end the game here if given the choice.

Savinho and Semenyo create a gap with a great one-two but the Ghanaian produces a poor lay-off on the edge of the box and the chance is lost.

That passage of play sums up the second half so far.

The latest thoughts of Richard Jolly, who is in place at the Etihad this evening...

“Just watching the City bench. Mateo Kovacic and Rayan Cherki are coming on. No sign of Haaland, though.”

72 mins

Textbook stuff from City at the moment, with the hosts very comfortable in possession.

They aren’t creating anything clear-cut though, and Pep Guardiola is screaming on the sidelines as another attack breaks down.

At the other end, Johnson does well to win a corner.

Manchester City 2-0 Crystal Palace

69 mins

City are still dominating possession and while the Palace subs have made the visitors look a little more dangerous, it’s the hosts who are in control at the moment.

Palace do break and Johnson is onside, but his cross is poor and is nowhere near Strand Larsen in the box.

Great footwork in the box from Semenyo, Foden and Ait-Nouri, but eventually the space is closed down as Marmoush drags an effort wide.

Palace have their first real opening of the half but the chance goes begging as Lerma’s first touch on the edge of the box is poor and he’s closed down.

'Guardiola may have a quandary'

21:12 , Richard Jolly at the etihad

The latest thoughts of Richard Jolly, who is in place at the Etihad this evening...

“Pep Guardiola may have a quandary when it comes to substitutions. He surely wants to rest players for the FA Cup final - or not bring on some of those he has rested, like Haaland, Cherki and Doku - but the title could yet be decided on goal difference.

“At the moment, City and Arsenal are tied on +42 - though for City to catch the Gunners, the league leaders would have to drop points somewhere.”

Back underway at the Etihad! City just need more of the same.

HALF-TIME! Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace

21:00 , Chris Wilson

It wasn’t a great half for the neutral but the game was unlocked by a moment of real quality from Phil Foden, and since then City have been dominant as they look to keep pace with Arsenal.

In truth it feels like the job is already done after Marmoush added that second, though Palace have shown how dangerous they can be. It’ll be interesting to see who Guardiola brings on when he does decide to make subs later on.

We’ll be back underway shortly in Manchester.

HALF-TIME! Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace

20:56 , Richard Jolly at the Etihad

The half-time thoughts of Richard Jolly, who is in place at the Etihad this evening...

“An outstanding quarter of an hour from Phil Foden and now Guardiola's gamble of resting and rotating looks likely to be justified. Though they did lose a lead at Everton last week.”

SAVE! Great save by Henderson to keep his side in it!

Foden almost has a hat-trick of assists as he clips in a great cross that Gvardiol rises highest to head goalwards.

It’s a great header but Henderson leaps across to claw it off his line!

40 mins

GOAL! Marmoush gets the second!

It’s all so simple as well, with Gvardiol clipping a lovely ball over the top to Foden, who knocks it on over his shoulder to Marmoush.

The Egyptian still has plenty to do as he shakes off the defender with his back to goal, but he hits a low effort on the swivel and it runs into the far corner courtesy of a small deflection.

'A wonderful backheel by Phil Foden'

20:39 , Richard Jolly at the Etihad

The latest reaction from Richard Jolly, who is in place at the Etihad this evening...

“No sooner said than City score, and in terrific fashion. That was a first goal in six games from Semenyo. More to the point, it was a wonderful backheel by Phil Foden. He hasn't scored in 2026 but that was a brilliant assist.”

Man City 1-0 Crystal Palace

36 mins

CHANCE! Marmoush will feel he should have cofred here!

Palace are caught in possession in their own half and City break. Savinho drives towards the area and slips a diagonal pass into the path of Marmoush , but he doesn’t want to take the shot first-time and he runs out of space.

CHANCE! Palace go up the other end and almost equalise straight away, though Donnarumma is equal to Mitchell’s effort from just outside the box.

GOAL! Man City 1-0 Crystal Palace (Semenyo, 32')

32 mins

GOAL! Semenyo has put City into the lead!

It all comes from a moment of genius from Foden, who receives the ball with his back to goal and slips a lovely backheel into the path of Semenyo, who simply has to drive a low first-time effort into the corner past Henderson!

 (Reuters)

Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace

20:30 , Richard Jolly at the Etihad

The latest from Richard Jolly, who is in place at the Etihad this evening...

“All rather quiet from City so far. Guardiola's decision to rotate has brought a team who don't seem to be on the same wavelength as each other.

“It hasn't helped that Savinho, who has had a poor season, has had a poor night. Palace have looked the more threatening, particularly on the counter-attack.”

Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace

20:28 , Chris Wilson

25 mins

Palace might have rested some key men this evening but they’re looking assured in possession, though they’re also lacking threat in attack.

A ball forward sees Mateta try and lay it back to Johnson to launch a counter, but his attempted touch is too weak.

Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace

20:26 , Chris Wilson

22 mins

More control from City but not a lot of attacking threat so far. It’s been disjointed from the hosts, and it’s looking like it’ll need some individual flair to get the first goal here.

Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace

Palace have clearly opted for the counter-attack as their main source for chances this evening, and they create a decent opening out of nowhere as they move up the pitch quickly before Johnson squares a pass to Pino, who sees a good effort deflected behind for a corner.

'Just win'

19:50 , Chris Wilson

“It's nice to play against a team I was once at. They did a lot for me. Nice to see some familiar faces, really nice,” says City defender Marc Guehi ahead of kick-off.

“Just win. Just win. Control counter-attacks, be persistent, make sure the chances we do get, put them away,” he adds when talking about what City have to do this evening.

'Pressure can get to anybody'

19:47 , Chris Wilson

“If Man City don't win, and Arsenal beat Burnley, it's all over. So there's a lovely bit of tension associated with the game. We'll see if it pans out over 90 minutes,” says former Arsenal striker Alan Smith on Sky.

“But Pep's been here many times, a few have and a few haven't. Those who haven't may be feeling a bit nervous.

“Pressure can get to anybody. Defensively, City have had to rebuild with Guehi and Khusanov - and there were mistakes at Everton that night. They're only human. They've given Arsenal more than a good chance,” he added.

'We want the three points'

19:43 , Chris Wilson

“We want to keep the rhythm that we've had throughout the season. We've had a lot of ups, we want to keep those ups right up until the final,” says Palace defender Chris Richards ahead of kick-off.

“We want to win games, regardless what the rest of the league is looking like. We want to get three points for ourselves. If it spoils somebody's party, so be it. But we want to continue our own party.

“City is a great team, everybody in the world knows this. We know it's not going to be an easy game, by no means. It's going to be a very busy night!” he added.

Glasner: 'Every decision today affects the final'

19:40 , Chris Wilson

“It's about talking to the players, talking to the medical staff and other coaches. Look into their eyes and take a decision. I was looking at the numbers, what they delivered in the last games and weeks,” says Palace boss Oliver Glasner ahead of kick-off.

“The back - they're doing really well so we didn't want to make too many changes. But we want to make earlier substitutions because in the last game we had too many things. But it should be fine now.

“Every decision today affects the final, a little bit. We will need all players in a good shape. We had a few players, such as Will Hughes, who was ill and in the last five games has only played five minutes. He needs minutes to be in the best shape. That's why he starts,” he added, explaining his selection decisions.

Guardiola: 'I trust the players'

19:35 , Chris Wilson

“Everybody is fit, there are no injuries. We need to be helped,” says City boss Pep Guardiola on Sky ahead of kick-off.

“The manager is here to take a risk. You have to take it. I trust the players, we have today and then we have to travel to London. After that we have to travel to Bournemouth,” he says as he explains his selection.

“The Premier League is so complicated right now, but we are trying to win, to play good, to try to score goals and not concede. That’s for sure,” he adds as he finishes.

Head-to-head

These two sides have met a total of 75 times in the past, with City winning 40, Palace winning 18 and 17 ending as draws.

Guardiola’s side ran out 3-0 winners when they met in the reverse fixture earlier this season, though of course the most famous meeting in recent years was last season’s FA Cup final, in which Palace won their first ever majort trophy courtesy of some heroics from Eberechi Eze and Dean Henderson in a 1-0 win.

Pep Guardiola confident Crystal Palace will not roll over for Man City or Arsenal in title race clashes

19:10 , Chris Wilson

Pep Guardiola anticipates a formidable challenge from Crystal Palace as Manchester City continue their pursuit of Premier League leaders Arsenal, with the Eagles also poised to play a pivotal role in the title race.

City must secure victory in their rearranged fixture against Palace on Wednesday to maintain pressure on the Gunners at the top of the table.

Oliver Glasner’s side could significantly influence the title outcome, as they are also scheduled to face Arsenal on the final day of the season.

When could Arsenal win the Premier League? Remaining title race fixtures compared to Man City

18:32 , Chris Wilson

Arsenal have closed in on the Premier League title with a dramatic late win over West Ham ensuring they remain in control of their own destiny.

Leandro Trossard struck late on to earn Mikel Arteta’s side three points at the London Stadium – but only after the video assistant referee (VAR) overturned an apparent equaliser by Callum Wilson for a foul on David Raya.

Manchester City had closed the gap to just two points at the top of the table on Saturday with a victory over Brentford, and still have a game in hand, but know they will need Arsenal to slip up if they are to overhaul their title rivals.

Previous meetings: Crystal Palace 1-0 Man City, 2025 FA Cup Final

18:25 , Chris Wilson

By far the most famous recent meeting between these two sides came in the FA Cup final last season, where Palace met City at Wembley hoping to land their first ever major honour.

City unsurprisingly dominated early on but they were left shocked when a superb Palace counter ended with Eberechi Eze sweeping a great finish past Ortega to give Palace the lead on 16 minutes.

Controversy soon came as Dean Henderson avoided getting a red card despite clearly handling the ball outside of his area and potentially denying a goalscoring opportunity.

City were enraged but they soon had a golden chance to get back into it as Bernardo Silva won a penalty in the 36th minute. However, they were left in yet more anger as Henderson saved it, a man who perhaps shouldn’t have been on the pitch denying them an equaliser.

And in the end it was enough to win the FA Cup in the most dramatic of circumstances, with Eze, Wharton, Mateta and co. delivering Palace’s first ever major trophy at Wembley.

What the managers said

18:06 , Chris Wilson

Palace boss Oliver Glasner said there has been "a great feeling and a great mood" around the club since progressing to the Europa Conference League final, and his side want to “show their best football” in the final games of the season.

On how he felt after the club’s Premeir League survival was confirmed, the Austrian explained: “Nothing changes to be honest. We still want to improve our game, do better, and show the best football we can play. This is the standards we have created here. We are not just playing for ourselves, we are playing to see the best of every player and best of Crystal Palace. It is more important than just the points."

What the managers said

18:00 , Chris Wilson

“I've not seen the players yet. Always, I give them a day off,” said Pep Guardiola when asked about the VAR decision and Arsenal’s result had affected his team.

“Crystal Palace [is my focus] and thinking what I have to do, to always learn from my career as a manager, what you control, to do better, what you've not done better this season, to arrive in a better position. We are still fighting.”

He explained that the pressure is “the same - one day, two days, a week ago, two weeks, same one”.

On Palace, he added: “It has always been tough games, particularly under Roy Hodgson and now Oliver [Glasner]. They have a European final so maybe they have struggled a little bit in the Premier League. But there have been a lot of changes - the manager is leaving, announced a long time ago - and maybe they are not consistent, but the quality is there."

Match stats

Erling Haaland has scored in all five of his league games against Palace, with eight goals in total.

Jeremy Doku has been involved in seven goals in his last six appearances in all competitions, with five goals and two assists. This is as many as he had registered in the his last 24 matches (with one goal and six assists).

Pep Guardiola explains what Man City must do to avoid title race being decided by VAR ‘flip of a coin’

17:44 , Chris Wilson

Pep Guardiola believes the best way to avoid VAR controversies is to win convincingly.

Guardiola feels his Manchester City side have been on the wrong end of contentious calls in the past and is still aggrieved by decisions in the FA Cup final defeats of 2024 and 2025.

The matter is back in the spotlight after relegation-threatened West Ham were denied a stoppage-time equaliser against title-chasing Arsenal after a lengthy VAR delay, a decision with major ramifications at both ends of the Premier League table.

Manchester City are looking to close the gap on title rivals Arsenal as they host Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

City set down the gauntlet for the Gunners on Saturday with their 3-0 win over Brentford, but Mikel Arteta’s side extended their lead at the top to five points after their dramatic victory at West Ham.

Palace, meanwhile, are laser-focused on their Europa Conference League final in a fortnight’s time but will be looking to finish their domestic season on a high. They drew 2-2 to Everton on Sunday and Oliver Glasner could revert back to his strongest XI for this clash.

Despite struggling against Palace in previous years, City were impressive in a comprehensive 3-0 win at Selhurst Park last time out in December, with Erling Haaland on the scoresheet twice.

Hello and welcome to The Independent’s live coverage of tonight’s Premier League match between Manchester City and Crystal Palace.

Pep Guardiola’s side host the Eagles knowing that they likely need to win all of their remaining games in order to have a chance of winning the title, with another sli-up this evening meaning Arsenal could win the title as early as this coming Monday.

The 3-3 draw with Everton may well have handed Arsenal the title, but plenty can still happen with a few games to go, and all City can do is win all their remaining games to put themselves in with a chance on the final day.

We’ll have all the latest build-up, team news and updates from the Etihad right here.
