
Kota Kinabalu: A 29-year-old lorry driver was charged in the Magistrate’s Court, here, Friday, with seven counts of dishonestly misappropriating rice and sugar worth RM21,953 belonging to two companies two years ago.
Mohd Helme Gurahman, 29, who appeared before High Court Senior Assistant Registrar Romario Jonoi, who sat as a Magistrate, claimed trial to the charges.
Helme allegedly committed the offence at Syarikat Pengangkutan Cekap Maju, Megalong Complex, Donggongon, between Aug 21 and Sept 27, 2021.
The first, second, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh counts stated that Helme fraudulently misused RM601.20 worth of rice at 2.11pm on Aug 21; RM9,075 worth of rice at 3.17pm on Aug 28; RM3,820 worth of rice at 9.12am on Sept 27; RM332.40 worth of coarse sugar at 9.12am on Sept 27; RM1,032 worth of rice at 10.48am on Sept 27 and RM332.40 worth to coarse sugar at 10.48am on Sept 27.
All the properties belonged to Sazarice Sdn Bhd.
The third count stated that Helme allegedly misused RM6,760 worth of rice belonging to Kent Well Sdn Bhd at 10.48am on Sept 14.
Each charge under Section 403 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between six months and five years and whipping and liability of a fine, on conviction.
The court set Jan 10 for case management and released the accused on a bail of RM2,000 in two sureties each.
Earlier Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit prosecuting, proposed bail at RM5,000 in two sureties each.
Duty counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence applied for a lower bail amount as he works as a lorry driver with a different company and the sole breadwinner of his family.
