Kota Kinabalu: A self-employed man was charged at the Magistrate’s Court with stealing a car.

Md Qassim Ahmad, 26, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to stealing a Proton Persona belonging to Alvie Jack at 11.30pm on June 3 at an open space Jalan Lembaga Air, Kasigui in Penampang.

The charge under Section 379A of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between one year and seven years and fine, on conviction. The court set Aug 15 for case management and released the accused on extended court bail.

In another case, two women were penalised for engaging in online gambling activities.

Nurshazleenie Jainih, 27, and Inah Harison, 18, were each fined RM800 or a week’s jail by Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie after they pleaded guilty to committing the offence.

Nurshazleenie admitted to playing online gambling with a handphone at 5.05pm on May 16 at Manggatal town, while Inah pleaded guilty to committing a similar offence at 6.20pm on April 2 at Kg Air here.

The two were charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail or both, on conviction.

Meanwhile, an unemployed man claimed trial to have a stolen motorcycle.

Md Farrezuddie Jamrah, 21, was accused of having the stolen machine belonging to Fandi Ahmad at 8.30pm on June 1 this year at Jalan Berungis, Tuaran.

He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Jessica set mention on Aug 15.
