
A 56-YEAR-OLD man tragically lost his life last night when the Perodua Kancil he was driving veered off the road and fell into an 80-metre ravine on the old Genting Sempah route towards Gombak.
The victim, identified as Mohamad Ashiq Fazal Ahmad, was reportedly ejected from the vehicle and sustained severe injuries.
Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, Deputy Director of Operations at the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, said seven officers and personnel from the Selayang Fire and Rescue Station, accompanied by a fire engine and an ambulance, were dispatched to the scene shortly after receiving the alert at 10.46 pm.
“The car driven by the victim lost control along the old Genting Sempah road towards Gombak before plunging into a ravine approximately 80 metres deep,” he told reporters.
“Upon arrival, our team found the victim still alive but critically injured and provided immediate medical attention. We then conducted rescue operations to extract him from the ravine.”
Despite the swift response, Mohamad Ashiq Fazal Ahmad was pronounced dead at the scene at 1.15 am by medical officers from the Ministry of Health Malaysia.
Ahmad Mukhlis confirmed that the case has been handed over to the police for further investigation. - March 9, 2026
