Man dies, passenger hurt in Papar crash

PENAMPANG: A van driver died after his vehicle crashed into 100m of bushes at the Jalan Papar Lama roadside, last Saturday.

District police were alerted to the incident behind the Lok Kawi Army Camp at 5.11pm.

Police Chief Supt Sammy Newton said the 35-year-old victim succumbed to fatal injuries and was pronounced dead by on-scene medical officers.

“An 18-year-old male passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to Hospital Queen Elizabeth for further treatment.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact investigating officer Insp Saparia Ladoni at 019-8095133,” he said in a statement.

Earlier, on the same day, a 39-year-old woman was found dead in a locked Perodua Bezza at the ITCC shopping mall outdoor parking lots.

Members of the public made the discovery at about 7.15am and alerted authorities. The Fire and Rescue Department was called to retrieve the 39-year-old victim’s lifeless body from the idling car.

Sammy said the victim was confirmed dead by medical officers at the scene and taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for post-mortem.

“Police confirmed no criminal elements were found at the scene. The case is classified as a sudden death report,” he said.
