Kota Kinabalu: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a 54-year-old man RM1,000 or three months jail for causing hurt to a man.
Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie meted out the sentence to Isah Ujal after he pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to Norarif Zulkifli on April 8, this year, between 3am and 4.50am, near Taman Putra Mas, Manggatal.
The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to one year or fine of up to RM2,000 or both, on conviction.
The prosecution informed the court that on the said day, the victim was walking near the residency area when a man, later identified as Isah, wrapped his arm around the victim’s neck before punching him.

Read more In another case, a 31-year-old woman was fined RM800 or a month’s jail for engaging in an online gambling activity in public.
Ruaina Faisal admitted to committing the offence using a handphone on May 11, at 3.55pm at the five-foot-way of a shop, at Inanam New Township, Inanam.
The court was informed by the prosecution that Ruaina was detained by police during a raid at the said place after she was seen engaging in the online gambling.
Ruaina was charged under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming House Act which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months jail or both on conviction.
