
Kota Kinabalu: A 48-year-old man was fined RM25 or a day’s jail for behaving in a threatening manner to disturb public order.
Abdul Salim Hassan pleaded guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to committing the offence against Rosli Sada at 3.15 pm on July 19 outside a unit on the fourth floor of Inanam new township, Jalan Kionsom, Inanam.
The offence under Section 8 (1) (e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance provides for a RM25 fine, on conviction.
The court was informed by the prosecution that Abdul punched the complainant’s ear and brandished a fork against him.

Unrepresented, Abdul apologised and requested leniency while the prosecution applied an adequate sentence.
In another case, a 29-year-old woman was fined RM1,800 or a month’s jail for having illegal gambling paraphernalia.
Joanne Juin admitted to having two slips of illegal lottery tickets at 4.45pm on June 27 at a staircase near a shop at Kepayan Ridge Commercial Centre.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Albert Basiri told the court that Joanne was arrested by a police team who went to the scene following information of gambling activity and seized the paraphernalia including RM160 in cash.
Joanne was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act which carries a jail term of up to six months, or a fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction.
Unrepresented Joanne requested a lenient sentence. The court also ordered the seized money to be forfeited by the government.
