Kota Kinabalu: A 39-year-old man was fined RM30,000 by the Sessions Court here for illegal electricity tapping and unauthorised electrical wiring that caused revenue losses to Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SE).
Mohd Arif Koh Keah Lin pleaded guilty before Judge Dr Nur Asyikin Mohktar to two charges framed under the Electricity Supply Enactment 2024.
On the first count, Mohd Arif was fined RM20,000 for dishonestly tapping electricity supply through a bypass cable connected directly to the cold-room distribution board at Ali Store Fresh Mart 2 in Kampung Tuarid Taud, Jalan Tuarid Taud, at 2.20pm on March 9.
On the second count, he was ordered to pay a further RM10,000 fine for installing electrical wiring into the existing installation at the same premises without obtaining written approval from SE.
Prosecuting Officer Andryeno Thomas from the Sabah Energy Commission prosecuted the case, while the unrepresented accused settled the total fines.
