Man held over suspected illegal water connection

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Water Department auxiliary police detained a 56-year-old man during a raid on a suspected illegal water pipe connection at Jalan Sulaman, Sepanggar, on Sunday.

The operation was carried out together with an enforcement officer from the Kota Kinabalu City Hall Water Department under Sections 49(a) and 49(b) of the Sabah Water Supply Enactment 2003.

It followed a public tip-off received at about 2.45pm. Two auxiliary police personnel and the enforcement officer inspected the site at about 3.45pm and found five people believed to be involved in the activity.

Four of them fled the scene, while several items believed to have been used in the illegal connection were seized.

Police and three additional auxiliary police personnel arrived at about 4.29pm. The suspect was taken to Alamesra Police Station at 4.40pm to assist with investigations.

The operation ended at 7.13pm.

The department said it would step up enforcement against illegal water connections, which could threaten the safety and proper management of the water supply system.

It also urged the public to continue providing information on suspected illegal water connections.
