LAHAD DATU: A man was jailed nine years and ordered given three strokes of the cane for molesting his niece since she was 10.
Session Court Judge Suhaila Selag handed the sentence.
The offence under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act (SOACA) 2017 provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.
The court ordered the man to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest and undergo counselling for two years.
The accused was detained by police on Aug 18, this year, upon receiving a report an 18-year-old girl claiming that she was molested by her uncle since she was 10.
