
A Delhi court has sentenced a 38-year-old man to rigorous imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life in a case involving repeated sexual assault of a minor girl in outer Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area.
The conviction came less than six weeks after the FIR was registered, with the trial concluding within just eight days, the Delhi Police said on Monday.
According to police, the case came to light on April 17 when the minor, accompanied by her parents, reported that the accused, a former neighbour known to the family, had allegedly sexually assaulted her multiple times since July 2025. The accused had allegedly threatened her against disclosing the incidents. After girl was found to be pregnant, she informed her mother about the alleged assaults. Based on her statement, a case was registered at the Nihal Vihar police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police said the victim’s medical examination confirmed that she was over 32 weeks pregnant. The accused was apprehended from the Nihal Vihar area on the same day the FIR was lodged. A special investigation team headed by the SHO of the Nihal Vihar police station was constituted to probe the case. The chargesheet was filed before the court within 34 days. According to the police, DNA profiling and witness testimonies formed key evidence during the trial.
The court convicted the accused on May 29 and, a day later, sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for life along with a fine of Rs 50,000. The court clarified that the life sentence would mean imprisonment for the remainder of the convict’s natural life. It also sanctioned compensation of Rs 16.5 lakh for the survivor. The Delhi Police said the case reflected its commitment to ensuring swift investigation and speedy justice in crimes against women and children.
