TAWAU: A 36-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing oil palm fruits at Kampung Tanjung Batu Kukusan around 3.30pm, Thursday.

Tawau Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the arrest came a day after a police report was filed at the Bandar Sri Indah Police Station.

A team from the District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) seized a lorry, a set of keys, and palm fruit sale receipts from the suspect.

“The man is believed to have worked with two others to steal palm fruits from an estate in the Sungai Burung area,” Jasmin said.

The theft reportedly occurred around 4pm on Oct 3, when the suspects entered the estate with a lorry and carted away approximately two tonnes of palm fruit, valued at RM2,000.

Police are actively tracking the two remaining suspects.

Jasmin also reminded the public not to purchase stolen oil palm fruits or any agricultural produce of uncertain origin, warning that such actions may contribute to ongoing theft cases.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years, a fine, or both, upon conviction. Let me know if you need this shortened for a news brief or social post.
