- Missing a transfer elevator to the 87th floor allowed him to escape down the stairs before the building collapsed.
- The 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks resulted in 2,996 deaths, including hundreds of emergency services personnel.
- Now 83, Mr Fine still uses the famous black briefcase from the photograph as a symbol that the attackers did not win.
