Kuala Lumpur: The sessions court here has sentenced a lorry driver to six months in jail after he posted a death threat against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on TikTok last year.

Judge N Priscilla Hemamalini handed down the sentence to Faizal Mohamad after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 of making comments with the intention to threaten another person.

He will serve the sentence beginning today.

Faizal had posted a video on his TikTok account last year, offering RM5 million to anyone willing to shoot “PMX” and other ministers.

A police report was subsequently lodged over the video’s content. The video has since been removed.

Earlier, during mitigation, Faizal pleaded for leniency from the court and asked that a fine be imposed as punishment. He said he had to support his family and a mother who is unwell.

However deputy public prosecutor Nurilya Ellyna Nor Azmal called for a deterrent sentence, saying the comment was inappropriate.
