Kota Kinabalu: A 44-year-old man was jailed eight months and fined RM2,500 or three months jail by the Magistrate Court on Monday for stealing two laptops.
MD Ridzuan Santumin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to stealing two HP laptops belonging to Mohammad Haffizie Minin at 08.59am on Jan 6 in a Surau at KKIA.
Ridzuan was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and liability of a fine, on conviction.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Suzie S.K. told the court that Mohd Haffizie lodged a police report that two of his laptops were stolen.

Mohd Haffizie was sleeping in the surau as his flight to Johor Bahru was the next day.
Through CCTV footage, it was found an unknown individual entered the surau and took Mohd Haffizie’s bag.
On Jan 13 at 3.35pm in front of the Rahman Enterprise Cleaning Office at KKIA, Ridzuan was detained by the police.
Duty Counsel, Lim Ming Zhoong @ Lawrence requested leniency while Suzie applied for a deterrence sentence.
In another court, a 20-year-old woman was jailed three months and fined RM2,700 or seven months jail for having syabu.
Siti Salmila Ahmad pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles.
She was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years’ jail, or both, on conviction.
Unrepresented, Siti requests a lenient fine as she works as a freelancer and has two children.
Prosecuting officer, Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik applied for a deterrence sentence.
