Man jailed, fined for assaulting sister

Kota Kinabalu: A self-employed man was jailed two weeks and fined RM2,000 or two months jail for assaulting his sister because he was annoyed by her dogs fighting in front of him.

Rayner Emiyos, 38, admitted before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence to Sylvianna Emiyos in a house at Kg Dambai, Jalan Kionsom, Inanam at 12.30pm on Sept 1, this year.

Inspector Albert Basiri, prosecuting, informed the court that the complainant was in the house when her older brother assaulted her with his hands and legs because her dogs were fighting in front of him.

The court heard that Rayner also threatened to beat her further should she make any noises at that time.

The complainant suffered pain in her neck and head from being kicked and stepped on and received treatment at the hospital, said the prosecution.

Rayner, who was not represented, requested for a fine.

The prosecution applied for an adequate sentence.

The court ordered Rayner to serve the imprisonment sentence from the date of his arrest on Sept 2.

In another case, a 45-year-old man was sentenced to nine months jail for having 0.17gm of syabu.

Junaidy Jamil pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to having the drugs at 12.20pm on Jan 3 this year in a unit at Angkasa apartment, Manggatal.

He was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both, on conviction.
