
A 24-YEAR-OLD unemployed man was sentenced to one year in prison today by the Sessions Court in Seremban after admitting to deliberately setting fire to the home of a 70-year-old man in Rasah last February.
Judge Datin Surita Budin imposed the sentence on Low Ting Sheng after he pleaded guilty to the charge of committing criminal mischief by fire, an offence punishable under Section 427 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34.
The law provides for imprisonment of between one and five years, a fine, or both.
According to court records, Low, together with another individual, threw a flaming object believed to be a petrol-filled plastic bottle into the victim’s house at Taman Bukit Nuri Indah Rasah at 1.36 a.m. on 17 February, intending to cause property damage.
The victim, alerted by a noise outside, discovered the fire and managed to extinguish it. During his inspection of the area, he found a piece of paper marked in red with his child’s name and identification number.
The court ordered Low to begin serving his sentence from the date of his arrest on 28 February. - November 24, 2025
