TAMPARULI: A man was killed and another injured after their lorry carrying cooking oil skidded and overturned along Jalan Tamparuli-Ranau, near the Murug-Turug Eco Tourism recreation centre, Thursday.

Tuaran District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Mohammad Nor Amit said emergency services received a distress call at 1.02pm.

“Upon arrival, our team found that an 18-year-old injured male passenger had already been pulled from the wreckage by members of the public.

“The 30-year-old driver, who is believed to have been thrown from the vehicle, was brought up using a stretcher,” he said.

The driver, however, was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer from the Ministry of Health.

Mohammad Nor said the injured victim was handed over to the Ministry for treatment, while the body was turned over to police for further action.

“The fire team also inspected the vehicle involved in the accident and the surrounding area to ensure there were no other hazards.

“The cause of the incident is still under investigation and the operation ended at 2.10pm,” he added.
