
SANDAKAN: A 56-year-old died after he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree early Tuesday at Jalan Utara, near Sekolah Menengah St. Mary, here.
Prior to the incident, he was heading to his workplace at Batu 8 after sending his son to a secondary school.
He succumbed to serious injuries and died on the spot.
Sandakan district police chief, ACP Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said the case is being investigated under Sec 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
In Beluran, a 36-year-old lorry conductor died when the lorry he was in plunged into a ravine after the driver swerved to avoid collision with a another vehicle at Jalan Telupid-Ranau, at about 12.30pm, on Tuesday.
Beluran District Police Chief, Sup Kasim Muda said, investigation at the scene found that the lorry laden with fertilizer was coming from Kota Kinabalu to go to Telupid.
“The lorry driver and his conductor were thrown out during the incident causing the driver to suffer minor injuries while the conductor died at the scene,” he said.
Kasim said the case is being investigated under with Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
