SHAH ALAM - A trailer lorry driver was killed while his seven-month-pregnant wife suffered minor injuries after the lorry they were travelling in was involved in a collision with another trailer lorry at Kilometre 1 of Jalan Persekutuan near Kampung Tebuk Marso in Sungai Besar early this morning.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) operations division assistant director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call at 2.49am and a team of six firefighters from the Sungai Besar Fire and Rescue Station was rushed to the scene.
He said the crash involved a trailer lorry carrying a container load, while the other trailer was transporting 36 tonnes of steel.
"The passenger of one of the trailers, a 26-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries and was rescued by members of the public before firefighters arrived. She was taken to hospital for treatment.
"The woman's 21-year-old husband was trapped in the driver's seat and found unconscious. He was removed from the vehicle at 4.15am and was pronounced dead," he said in a statement today.
Ashrul Riezal said the victim was from Parit, Perak, while his wife was from Telok Panglima Garang, Kuala Langat.
Meanwhile, he said the driver of the other trailer lorry escaped unharmed. - BERNAMA
