
KINABATANGAN: A 56-year-old man died while a 53-year-old woman was injured after the pickup truck they were travelling in skidded off the road and into a drain at Kampung Paris 2, here, on Sunday.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department said it received an emergency call through the 999 line at 1.06pm and dispatched a five-member team from the Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station, arriving at the scene at 1.51pm after travelling about 50 kilometres.
Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station chief Suriyadi Darwis said firefighters rescued both occupants from the vehicle before the male driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Health Ministry team, while the injured female passenger was taken to Lahad Datu Hospital by her family for treatment.
The victim's body was handed over to the police for further action, while the operation involving the police and Health Ministry personnel ended at 3.15pm after firefighters confirmed the area was safe.
