
The Gate Hakima police arrested a man and seized 500 gm of heroin, along with two sophisticated pistols, from him here.
Vishaljit Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, said on Saturday that a team, led by Sub-Inspector Salakhan Singh, was on patrol in the Gate Hakima area when it spotted a youth approaching from the Railway Quarters near the B-Block railway colony.
On noticing the police party, the youth allegedly attempted to throw away a polythene packet from his trouser pocket. The police immediately intercepted the youth and apprehended him.
The accused was identified as Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, a resident of Kakkar village, under the Lopoke police station here.
Upon checking the packet, the police seized 500 gm of heroin.
Following the seizure, a case under Section 21-C of the NDPS Act was registered against him. During interrogation, he also disclosed about two weapons smuggled from Pakistan. The police seized two illegal firearms from Gurpreet Singh’s possession, including a .30 bore pistol and a .32 bore Glock pistol, later on.
Cops said the accused was being interrogated to ascertain the source of the narcotics and weapons and to identify his possible links with drug trafficking and illegal arms networks.
